We’re redefining treatment for neck and back pain. We’ve rejected the old notion that you can heal and revitalize your spine, the core of your being, with superficial treatments and quick fixes delivered in a stressful and impersonal manner. We view our therapy as the beginning of a journey for renewal of your body, mind and spirit.
We utilize the most sophisticated technology available to pinpoint the cause of your pain, including MRI, CT Scan, X-ray and Laboratory Tests. However, most important for understanding you and the true nature of your pain is our extensive case history/physical examination.
Using this information, we will design a multifaceted treatment program. We view healing as a process not an event. Your treatment is only one element of this process. Relaxation, exercise and nutrition are also necessary. Therefore, we’ve created an environment that will support optimal healing and renewal. Your treatment sessions will be unhurried, in a private, relaxing space. Therapy will consist of a custom blend of spinal mobilization, physiotherapy, exercise and massage.
Because you are unique, your program will be one of a kind, designed to meet your individual needs.
Our goal in the initial stage of care is to quickly reduce your inflammation and pain. Depending on the cause of your pain, each of your therapy sessions will consist of a gentle blend of:
1. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression
2. Massage
3. Therapeutic Stretching
4. Spinal Manipulation
5. Ultrasound
6. Deep Heating Diathermy
7. Interferential Muscle Stimulation
Each therapy session lasts approximately one hour.
During this phase, we move beyond simple pain relief. Your therapy will gradually evolve to match your exact level of progress. The tissues of the back, neck, arms and legs will continue to be gently mobilized in order to reduce healing time, minimize formation of scar tissue adhesions and reduce pressure on spinal nerves.
Progressive strengthening of back muscles and supporting tissues stabilizes your back and increases your capacity to perform home, work and recreational activities. Imagine being able to golf, swim, play tennis, hike – without pain!
Chiropractic Spinal manipulation frees restricted movement of the spine and helps restore misaligned vertebra to their proper position in the spinal column. Spinal manipulation helps to reduce nerve irritation responsible for causing inflammation, muscle spasm and pain. Research shows spinal manipulation to be safe and effective.
Doctors of Chiropractic are trained to use many different adjustment techniques enabling them to treat different disorders of the spine and nervous system. Techniques vary from a swift, careful thrust to those that combine minimal force and gentle pressure. Mastery of each technique is an art that requires great skill and precision. Spinal manipulation is the treatment that differentiates chiropractic from other medical disciplines.
For patients who do not improve with self-care, spinal manipulation is the treatment of choice for both acute or chronic low back pain, according to guidelines published by the American College of Physicians and the American Pain Society.
The fact is once you reach the age of 30, you can lose as much as 3% of your muscle mass per year. This causes pain, weakness and fatigue. It also sets you up for back injuries that can haunt you for the rest of your life. The great news is you can safely rebuild lost muscle and it doesn’t require a high investment of time.
We've developed the “Back Power Slow Cadence” fitness program. This amazing form of resistance training puts a week’s worth of exercise into one 30 minute session. Even more remarkable is its ability to strengthen you 50% faster than most other programs requiring 3 – 4 sessions per week.
Robert J Zapf, MS, DC specializes in designing and carefully implementing "Back Power Slow Cadence" programs for rebuilding your core muscle strength. Utilizing our LifeFitness G5 exercise equipment we will custom fit you with a program designed to alleviate your pain and helping to prevent it from ever coming back. Imagine living life pain free and strong!
Physiotherapy is a natural method of treating and preventing injury and disease. It aims to help alleviate pain; to restore normal movement patterns; and to return the body to a state of equilibrium or balance without chemical intervention. We will help you maximize functional movement and ability by using a variety of hands-on treatments, an exercise recommendation, and education.
Physiotherapy has widespread applications. It can help you gain strength and flexibility, reduce pain, and promote greater independence. It can also help many conditions that affect the muscles or nerves. Therapies include heat, cold, electric stimulation, ultrasound, traction, shortwave diathermy, stretching, strengthening exercises and massage.
Massage Therapy is a method of healing that utilizes human touch to promote relaxation, relief of tension, and a greater level of well being. There are numerous methods and techniques of massage, ranging from the most gentle, superficial stimulation to deep manipulation of muscle groups.
Massage is used as a complement to many other forms of healing. Massage Therapy promotes healthy circulation, ease of movement, reduction of scar tissue, strong immunity, and mental clarity. Massage lowers stress and anxiety levels, reduces blood pressure, and shortens the healing time of injuries.
Leander 900 Technology Powerfully Effective Treatment for Herniated Discs & Sciatica.
The scientifically demonstrated success of the Leander 900 Spinal Flexion- Distraction Decompression Unit proves its treatment power. The Leander 900 has provided relief for hundreds of our patients by gently reducing pressure within herniated discs. The result is rapid, long lasting relief from painful disc herniations, sciatica and pinched nerves.
The newest addition to our treatment options is the computerized Model TX Decompression System.
This system allows for computer controlled hold, rest and treatment times; intermittent, static and cyclic traction programs; and progressive and regressive settings. Bottom line: You get comfortable, powerfully effective treatment for neck and back pain as well as sciatica.
Both decompression systems slowly and precisely open the disc spaces between the vertebrae of your back. Decompression of the vertebrae reduces pressure inside the discs. The vacuum effect draws jelly-like disc material back toward the center of the disc thereby reducing the size of the bulge or herniation. Reducing the size of the disc bulge decreases the pressure on the spinal nerves and drastically reduces your neck, back, arm, and leg pain.
These revolutionary procedures also increase vital circulation to damaged, painful areas of the neck and lower back. The pumping action enhances soft tissue nutrition, stimulating your body’s natural healing process. The end result is resolution of neck and arm pain as well as back and leg pain without drugs or surgery. Patients find this type of therapy surprisingly pleasant (many fall asleep). We find it powerfully effective.
